Kuchenstück (Slice of Cake) is a complex mechanical maze puzzle designed by Tyler Hudson and produced by Pelikan Puzzles. Its delightful, cake-like form, with its layered wood and a cherry on top, conveys a playful impression, but behind it lies a very challenging puzzle experience.
The goal is to explore the changing maze and eventually disassemble the puzzle. The interacting internal components create a maze experience that evolves as you explore, requiring patience, keen observation, and a strong sense of mechanical relationships. It's a challenge for advanced puzzlers with a particularly rewarding conclusion.
Kuchenstück is a wonderful blend of playfulness and serious puzzle design. It looks charming as a display piece, but at the same time offers a profound maze experience with enough complexity to keep even experienced puzzle enthusiasts engaged for a long time. An outstanding piece for collectors who appreciate mechanical discovery puzzles with true depth.
The puzzle actually consists of three maze plates that interact with each other and with the outer box, forming a maze that constantly changes as you navigate it. Initially, there are several paths before you find the one that leads to the solution. Once you take that path, more possibilities open up. Creating a map is practically impossible because everything changes with every move. Exploring is fun, and gradually you get a feel for it and eventually an insight into how the plates interact. You can even see the gaps between the plates, where they will presumably separate from each other.
