MINIMA FOR FREDERIC is an exquisite wooden puzzle from the pen of Dr. Volker Latussek – a personal tribute to Frederic Boucher, the founder of the legendary MINIMA series. Crafted from fine oak and wenge wood, this tray puzzle combines minimalist design with a maximum puzzling challenge.
Originally, the MINIMA series was limited to a 2x2x3 volume. Latussek went a step further for this puzzle: Six identical building blocks – each consisting of one cube and two half-cubes – must completely fill a 6x4x4 box. Of 924 theoretically possible arrangements, only 13 fulfill this condition, leading to 50 unique solutions. Skillfully placed 3x2 openings in the casing create a rotational challenge that pushes even experienced puzzlers to their limits.
The puzzle is delivered in a special transport configuration, the disassembly of which already presents the first mental exercise. The actual assembly requires precise, creative rotational movements: The last two components can only be brought into position relative to each other through a very specific sequence of rotations – a challenge that even puzzle experts like Kevin Sadler have spent days pondering.
Measuring 70 x 50 x 50 mm, MINIMA FOR FREDERIC is compact, but by no means easy. It combines the highest level of craftsmanship with challenging geometry, making it a must-have for collectors of Latussek designs and lovers of the MINIMA series alike. A puzzle that elegantly combines tradition and innovation – manufactured by Pelikan Puzzles with its usual high quality.
