The game is played on a 9-square game board (3x3). Each player has 8 identical pieces, most of which are two colors. Only those who plan ahead from the very first move have a chance of ultimately emerging victorious. A few rules govern the game. The winner is the player who, viewed from above, has the most squares of their color at the end of the game.
The game pieces are stored in a wooden box, the sliding lid of which is the game board.
