Beschreibung

Xiangqi , a Chinese chess game, is a tactical board game for two players. The original form of chess originated in India. The spread of the game in Europe gave rise to the game of chess we know today. In Asia, the original form developed into Xiangqi.

Unlike a chessboard, the Xiangqi board is not divided into squares but into a grid of lines, along which the pieces are moved. The board is divided into two equal halves by the river. Each half contains a palace where the general lives. The original pieces are wooden discs with printed Chinese symbols.

The general (equivalent to the king in chess) may not leave the palace. He must be captured (check) or his army destroyed (stalemate).

Two mandarins live with him in the palace and protect him. They, too, are unable to leave.

The chariot (equivalent to the rook in chess) can move any number of steps forward, sideways and backward.

The cannon moves like the chariot. However, it can only capture an opponent's piece from "cover," meaning that one of your own or another player's piece must be between the cannon and the threatened piece.

The horse has the same movement pattern as the knight in chess, only the path must be clear, i.e. the horse cannot jump over any piece.

The soldier corresponds to the pawn in chess and is moved in a similar way.

Xiangqi presents a new challenge even for experienced chess players. The only advantage chess professionals have is their skill in strategic thinking.

WARNING: Caution! Not suitable for children under 3 years of age, as toys and small parts can be swallowed or inhaled.
